Three words for you:
Gravity – Plays – Favorites
And then another four words to add to that:
I – finally – saw – them!!!!
I found out a month ago that they were the special guests for “The Best Night of Your Life” burlesque tour. Our paths have yet to cross in this pole/burlesque world, and after a couple years of me waiting, our paths finally crossed!
Right now my car is a piece of crap, and it stalled out twice in one day the week of the show. Mr DuPree said I could borrow his car, seeing GPF meant so much to me. Yay!
It took me a lot longer than expected to make it to Pittsburgh. Why would they choose to shut down a tunnel the one weekend I go? Ive been to Pittsburgh twice before, the last time 5 years ago…why shut it down now?? I spend forever fighting with my Garmen in many attempts to get me to the hotel. I was worried I wouldn’t even make it to the show, everything was taking so long. I wondered if I should just go to the venue and skip the hotel, but I really wanted to change and get all prettied up before the show.
Well, after circling various streets, and doing all I could to avoid the shut down highways and the packed alternate routes, I took the tiniest of side streets to the hotel, and I had about 20 minutes to change and then head back to the venue. I made it to The Rex theater and found a parking spot no problem. It was almost 7:30pm with a showtime of 8pm. I was concerned that it would be packed and I would have to sit in the back.
Much to my joy, when I walked into The Rex, there were chairs arranged and most of them were empty, so I sat my little candyass right in the front row. Totally worth the drive and the rush out of the hotel to be able to sit in the very front! I was most excited to see Gravitys’ stage pole all set up on the stage. I had a nice conversation with a couple sitting next to me, and they told me it was their first burlesque show, awwww. We talked about photography stuff and in the meantime, the audience was clearly tired of waiting for the show to start, for they started clapping and shouting and making a commotion in an effort to hurry up the process. The show was listed as starting at 8pm, and at about 8:15 is when the audience started making a ruckus. I was shocked, for in Baltimore we seem to wait around another 45 minutes to an hour for the show to start and we don’t really make a scene about it.
It seems The Rexs’ dressing room is to the back and upstairs, and eventually all the performers made their way down, through the seated audience and into the back stage area. This was a set up I had not seen before, and I thought it was rather interesting, for everyone started cheering seeing the performers progress towards the stage. It took a little while longer for the show to start, but soon it started.
First was Peekaboo Pointe, and oh baby, can she bring it! And then was Lil’ Miss Lixx, whom I had not seen before and I think she is fabulous! Cute and funny and sexy all at the same time.
Kenny Law sung us a tune whilst he played the ukulele, and then Katrina Dohl, aka part of Gravity Plays Favorites did a fan dance with a twist in the beginning. I was glad to see her do something non-pole, for sometimes I wonder if I should be doing non-pole routines myself.
And then Coco Lee (stage kitten) dragged the stage pole to center stage, and wiped the pole down with alcohol. I was actually feeling all fluttery inside for I was about to see my personal pole heroes! It was also good to see that Gravity Plays Favorites do a fresh wipe down right before they go on.
Seconds before they went on, I realized that I needed to take photos…but I also needed video of this as well. Wondering how I could accomplish this, I realized that I have two arms! Left hand held my compact camera for video, right hand held my SLR camera for photos. I had never done both before at the same time.
And I did it, I watched them perform and I took photos and I took video. I had to, they’re my heroes!! It was so weird to see them, in front of me…as opposed to me only seeing them perform via little videos on Facebook or YouTube. It was kind of amazing to be right there in front of them!
During intermission, I bought a raffel ticket, and thanked Peekaboo Pointe for bringing Gravity Plays Favorites closer to me! And when they announced the winner for the raffel…I won! I got Kenny Laws CD, a tour poster, a Lil’ Miss Lixx lighter, and pasties made by Peek-a-boo Pointe (nice black ones, and not the hot-mess-hot-glue ones I make). The show continued on and I was so glad to see Michelle Mynx do a pole solo.
And of course, closing the show was the dynamic duo once again!
After the show, I saw Gravity Plays Favorites walk out from backstage. Michelle Mynx asked me if I was Bianca, and I just shouted “Yes, I love you two, youre my heroes!” and gave her a big hug! It was cute. So I waited for them to take photos and talk with people, and we had a couple drinks at the bar and talked some pole stuff. Michelle helped me on trying to get my knee hold (damn that knee hold!) on their stage pole. And then they had to pack their stuff up and break down the stage pole and all that. I waited for a while, but they were clearly busy and I went on my little way.
It was still fantastic to see them in person, and I swear this will not be the last time!!
