I started taking burlesque classes. Trixie Little Burlesque Bootcamp to be exact!
This is my second go of burlesque classes, the first time was three years ago. But this time around I have a couple of shows under my rhinestone fringed belt (And I mean a couple, I’m no seasoned performer over here) But I am feeling good in that I am not totally uncomfortable on stage, yet slightly aware of what I want to work on in myself.
Before class, we were to come up with 10 routine ideas. Yeah, a whole 10 of them. Somehow I wrote down 12 ideas though and picked out about 10 songs that I would like to perform to as well.
We started off with theater movement exercises and then broke up into smaller groups to talk about our ideas and flush out whats the better idea and think about what are the top three idea to discuss with the whole class. So we all sat down and quickly had to run through out routines with a couple other women. That was helpful, but the most helpful was when we talked about our ideas with everyone.
All of us brought up 2 or 3 routine ideas to discuss with the whole class. First of all, it was very interesting to hear what everyone came up with on their own. It was almost a way of seeing what kind of person they are when hearing their ideas. And secondly, it was fantastic to hear Trixie Little’s opinion about the idea, the execution of it, what will work and what wont. That was worth the price of the class alone…and we have only just begun!
